The Environment Authority is organising teams for governance, negotiation, media, the Oman pavilion, youth, innovation, indicators, and logistics. Times of Oman, citing the Oman News Agency, reported that Oman rose 6 places in the 2026 Global Environmental Performance Index, from 55th in 2024 to 49th, and ranked first on 6 sub-indicators.
The same report gave these figures: 1.77 million tonnes of recycled municipal solid waste, 85 recycling factories, marine reserves covering 16.19 percent of the exclusive economic zone, 32 nature reserves in 2025 covering about 187,276 square kilometres, and a mangrove target of 100 million trees on up to 20,000 hectares. Those numbers come from the report; OmanCompass has not recalculated them.
