Dhofar stretches along the southern coast from the Yemen border toward the central desert. Wilayat Salalah is the main city and the frankincense coast. The khareef, the summer monsoon, turns the coastal mountains green.

East of Salalah are Taqah, Mirbat, and Sadah. West are Rakhyut and Dhalkut. Inland, Thumrait sits where the mountains meet the desert road north, and Muqshin and Al Mazyona lie farther into the dry interior. Shaleem and the Hallaniyat Islands form their own wilayat.

The published wilayats are Wilayat Al Mazyona, Wilayat Dhalkut, Wilayat Mirbat, Wilayat Muqshin, Wilayat Rakhyut, Wilayat Sadah, Wilayat Salalah, Wilayat Shaleem and the Hallaniyat Islands, Wilayat Taqah and Wilayat Thumrait.
