Al Buraimi Governorate is the inland governorate on the UAE border, beside Al Ain. It has three published wilayats: Al Buraimi, Mahdah, and As Sunaynah. It was separated from Ad Dhahirah and is not part of that governorate.

Wilayat Al Buraimi is the oasis city that adjoins Al Ain across the border, with its forts and palm groves. Mahdah is the mountainous wilayat between the oasis and the Sohar road, cut by wadis.
As Sunaynah is the large desert wilayat stretching west toward the sands. It is not a neighborhood of the oasis city.
The published wilayats are Wilayat Al Buraimi, Wilayat As Sunaynah and Wilayat Mahdah.
